Sector 7

Author/Illustrator: David Wiesner

This is a Fantasy Book. I enjoyed reading it. It tells a story of a child who gets "taken away" when his class visits the Empire State Building. Soon he is floating on clouds that come alive. The illustrations are beautiful. It encourages your own imagination as does children's. There are no words so it forces children to make their own. A good way of bringing this to the classroom might be to have the whole class make up the words on each page. Suggested reading level are Pre-k and up. Very good book!

You Read to me, I'll Read to You, Very Short Stories to Read Together by Mary Ann Hoberman Illustrated by Michael Emberley

This is a poetry book. I really enjoyed it because it seperates short stories into poem dialogue. Each story is seperated into 3 columns printed in colored labeled...one to read to me, one for me to read to you and the third to read together. This book makes learning to read fun and you can read with anyone you want. Children that I have read this book with think it is great. They love ryhming. It is very easy for children to read and gives the teacher a way to assess a child's reading ability.

Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney Illustrated by Anita Jeram

This book provides numerous examples for work with making comparisions. They each explain their love through different things which serve as measurment "tools". This is a picture book about who loves who more until the characters finally come to an agreement. This books allows children to see exaggeration, dialogue, and relationship like the ones they have with their own parents or guardians.
